Welcome to Pasture Raised Kids Summer Program! 🌞 Get ready for an unforgettable adventure filled with hands-on experiences and exploration!

Step into our world where learning meets nature. Our summer program is designed to ignite curiosity and foster a deep connection with the environment. From our bustling farm to the heart of our culinary kitchen and vibrant children's garden, every corner is a new discovery waiting to happen.

Join our small, cooperative group as we dive into the rhythm of farm life. From feeding chickens and gathering eggs to planting seeds and mastering farm tools, every day is a chance to learn and grow. Our campers become stewards of the land, soaking in the wonders of sustainable farming and environmental conservation.

But it's not all work and no play! From games to bookclub, every moment is a chance to create epic memories with friends.

And let's not forget our special day at Etna City Park and Pool, where we unwind and soak up the joys of summer.

Music Classes
We are thrilled to offer a variety of amazing music classes this summer! 🎶 Get ready to rock out on the farm. Whether you’re enrolled in Farm Camp or selecting a-la-carte classes, get ready for an unforgettable summer!

We invite you to join us on the farm for a musical journey like no other, led by our talented instructor, Thomas Walker.

Discover Siskiyou's most compelling youth music program, where passion meets practice in an immersive, fun environment. Whether your child is a budding musician or a seasoned pro, our classes offer something for everyone. Beginner classes for ages 6-8, intermediate and advanced for 9-18.

Unleash your creativity with our diverse range of classes, offered Monday through Wednesday.

Class Descriptions

Intro to Music Theory: Students delve into the fundamental principles of music, exploring elements like rhythm, melody, and harmony. They learn to read notation, analyze compositions, and develop their understanding of music's historical and cultural contexts.

Rock and Pop Ensemble: In this class, students collaborate to learn and perform popular rock and pop songs. They develop their instrumental and vocal skills, explore stage presence and dynamics, and culminate in live performances or recordings.

Blues & R&B Trio: Students immerse themselves in the traditions of blues and R&B music, learning to play as a small ensemble. They explore classic repertoire, develop improvisational skills, and study the stylistic elements that define these genres.

Music Tech & Songwriting: This class combines music technology with the art of songwriting, teaching students to use software and hardware to create original music. They learn recording techniques, and electronic music production.

Intro to Ensembles (for ages 6-7): Young students discover the joy of playing music in small groups, exploring various instruments and basic music concepts. They receive instruction on instrument technique, collaborate with peers in ensemble playing, and develop teamwork and communication skills through creative expression.

You can choose to take one class over seven weeks or bundle three for a discounted price
Classes are 1x per week for six weeks from June 17th - August 2nd

  • 1 class per week total: $350 (7 classes total, $50 per class)

  • 3 classes per week: $735 (21 classes total $35 per class)

  • 4 classes per week: $800 (28 classes- four per week- $28 per class)

Thomas Walker, Farm School Music Instructor

Beginning classical piano studies under the the tutelage of famous pianist Lili Simon in Evanston, Illinois at the age of 5, Thomas Walker has since branched off into Jazz guitar, composition study, pop and rock keyboards, electronic music and has played with a wide variety of musicians from many different backgrounds.

Thomas attended Columbia College Chicago and studied Jazz Guitar under the late great Frank Dawson, working with his multiple Jazz ensembles.  In addition, he completed a secondary piano composition degree under Phillip Seward and graduated with a B.A. in Instrumental Performance in 2008.

Throughout his time in the Chicagoland area, Thomas taught with Music Teachers Network and private lessons to both children and adults. In 2013 and 2014, he led a rock camp with 8-12 year olds with Chicago Music Teachers.

He played in numerous musical acts around the city of Chicago, such as The Local Void, Sharmon Jarmon Experience, Life at Sea, and Stuttgart, whilst spearheading his own two projects the Rock quartet Lonely Parasite Traveling Circus and the Electronic duo Plastic Eater.  Before leaving Chicago, Thomas played synthesizer in a locally famous musical theater troupe called Quest Theater productions.

In 2015 Thomas completed the self produced E.P. Jig Man  with close musical collaborator and vocalist/producer Sy Barsheshet of Plastic Eater.  The duo then relocated to Los Angeles where they did an extended residency at Imperial Art Studios in Downtown L.A.  Here Thomas began playing keyboards for Sariyah Idan and her many musical projects and working with Guitarist and Vocalist Ishmael Perez playing keyboards at a two month residency at Lost property Bar on Hollywood and Vine.

After his time In Los Angeles, Thomas tried his hand at chicken farming in the North San Francisco Bay Area, eventually relocating to the Salmon mountains with his family.  After settling down for a few years and enrolling his two sons at Farm school in Fort Jones California, he began teaching music there.
